She stood, or perhaps hung, in a world that didn’t quite make sense. Her long, dark hair spilled toward the floor, tangled and wild, as if she were suspended in some strange, otherworldly moment. Her body twisted in an impossible angle, but she seemed unbothered by the gravity-defying pose. Her pants, a mix of soft pastel colors, were patterned with tiny hearts—except for one. The space where the heart should have been was empty, a perfect void. She gazed down at it, a faint frown tugging at her lips, and in her hand, she cradled the missing heart, its edges smooth and warm, as though it had just been pulled from somewhere deep inside of her. The absence from her pants seemed to pulse with a quiet emptiness, and yet, the more she stared at it, the more it seemed as though she was the one who had always been out of place, not the world around her
